Wild Clay - Rupert's Blend
A silky smooth sticky Earthenware clay with great plasticity making it perfect for handbuilding.
Dotty's Clay is a pink earthen ware clay, dug and processed in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a truly special clay, different from it's colour, firing range, to texture and plasticity. A rare clay to have been found.
This clay is a deep purple when working in wet form which dries to a paler colour, when fired to earthenware temperatures (fires well 1010 - 1070) the clay turns to a pale pink. If you take this clay to stoneware temperatures the clay turns to a pale stone colour.
This clay takes well to earthenware glaze. When a clear glaze is added the clay colour turns to a colour found in terracotta clays.
A silky smooth sticky clay to work with, ideal for hand building and throwing. There has been no texture left in this clay, it truly feels like silk when in slip form
When in greenware form this clay is purple in colouring.
Perfect left un glazed and left in it's bisque form. Who else has pale pink bisque pots to show off?
All of our wild clay has been dug by hand, transported to our studio and then through a very long process from cleaning the clay right the way through to wedging the clay. All of this has been done by Emily our studio owner and teacher. The price reflects the hard work and long hours it takes to create such a special clay.
There are no harmful or hazardous chemicals added to this clay. All though we don't recommend you eat our clay, if you did you would not be ingesting anything harmful.
Please keep away from eyes. If you have sensitve skin please wear gloves when using the clay.
