Wild Clay - Rupert's Blend
A sticky fine textured terracotta clay with great plasticity making it perfect for handbuilding.
Rupert's Blend is a red earthenware clay dug and processed here in Stoke-on-Trent. Different from Ricky's mix with it's colour and feel.
Rupert's blend offers brighter tones and a greater change in colour once fired. A bright orange comes alive with a low firing of 1010 moving to a deep dark brown, similar to that found on a house break, when fired to 1070.
When in greenware form this clay is yellow/green in colouring.
This clay reacts well to low fire glaze however shrinkage can be dramatic at higher firings. If glazing a piece of low fired orange clay please note it will darken in it's second higher glaze firing.
Perfect left un glazed and left in it's bisque form.
This blend of clay has fine textures: meaning you can smooth and have a clean finish with a hint of texture to the touch or you can rough the surface of your work and enhance the true nature of the wild in the clay.
All of our wild clay has been dug by hand, transported to our studio and then through a very long process from cleaning the clay right the way through to wedging the clay. All of this has been done by Emily our studio owner and teacher. The price reflects the hard work and long hours it takes to create such a special clay.
There are no harmful or hazardous chemicals added to this clay. All though we don't recommend you eat our clay, if you did you would not be ingesting anything harmful.
Please keep away from eyes. If you have sensitve skin please wear gloves when using the clay.
